Newest Illinois work data shows jobless claims up from prior week, while unemployment claims dip

Initial filings for unemployment benefits in Illinois rose last week compared with the week prior.

New jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs, increased to 8,300 in the week ending March 23, up from 7,480 the week before.

Unemployment claims dropped to 210,000 last week, down 2,000 claims from 212,000 the week prior on a seasonally adjusted basis.
