Mental Health Monday With Rocki [VIDEO]

It’s mental health Monday. Time to check in with yourself after the weekend and before the week ahead – How are you? And, I’m not asking socially. I’m asking for you to really ask yourself and reflect on that question.

“Hi, how are you?” is something we answer multiple times a day. Instinctually, we think everybody needs to see us as perfect, so we say good, or well for all you grammar peeps.

I really feel like that sets the tone for us to believe we are good no matter how we feel. It promotes sweeping under the rug, which for our mental health is not a great thing to do. When we get in stuck in the whirlwind of our day to day, it becomes easy to distract ourselves from some potentially destructive or unhealthy behavior.

So today, sit with that question. How am I? Allow yourself to reflect on your actions and the actions of people around you, the community, your fears but also successes and goals. Even if it’s for 15 minutes a day, your emotional desktop will be clear of clutter and ready to take on whatever comes next.

Have a great week.

P.S. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s Out Of the Darkness Walk is coming up. From the APSP website:

Many people’s introduction to AFSP comes through the Out of the Darkness Walks, taking place in cities nationwide. In our Community, Campus and Overnight Walks, those affected by suicide – and those who support them – raise awareness and much-needed funds, strongly sending the message that suicide can be preventable, and that no one is alone.
