The local jobless rate fell in April to 3.7%; that’s down from 3.9% in March, and 4.1% in April of 2022.
The Springfield area has added 2,000 jobs in the past year, with the biggest increases coming in government jobs and leisure and hospitality.
Springfield’s jobless rate is higher than Bloomington-Normal or Champaign-Urbana, but well below Peoria and Decatur.
