Ryan McCrady of SSGA notes that deal to preserve Wyndham City Centre as hotel still has life in it – but says lots of work remains necessary

The head of the Springfield Sangamon Growth Alliance says a deal to preserve the Wyndham City Centre as a downtown hotel isn’t dead yet – but acknowledges there’s a lot of work to be done to salvage it.

Ryan McCrady tells WMAY he raised the red flags that led to new Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher’s decision to scale back the proposal.

McCrady says the $18.75 million proposal from former Mayor Jim Langfelder cannot be supported by the estimated revenues generated by the project, and says $11 million is a more realistic estimate of the incentives the city could provide.

While the Wyndham’s owner isn’t happy about the smaller proposal, McCrady says both sides are continuing to talk and look at options to keep the hotel open for downtown conventions and visitors.
