One driver has been ticketed in connection with a fatal crash in Springfield Thursday, while police are searching for a hit-and-run driver in a separate incident.
In the fatal collision, police say a box truck driver was attempting to turn left from Dirksen Parkway onto Northfield Drive.
The driver says he saw two motorcycles approaching, but thought he had time to complete the turn. One of the motorcyclists hit the right rear tires of the box truck with no attempt to stop.
That motorcyclist, 34-year-old Jordan Charnley, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
The truck driver was cited for an improper turn. In the second incident, a student crossing the street on foot at West Monroe and New Streets was struck by a vehicle which continued east on Monroe.
The student is expected to recover, but police are still looking for the driver.
