Those fields that are passed by as one drives in and out of Springfield are just some of the incredibly productive fields that Illinois has to offer.

According to the USDA National Agriculture Statistic Service (NASS), Piatt County took the top spot in overall soybean yield across the state and nation over 2022 with a whopping 74.2 bushels per acre, while numbers two through eleven are all made up of Illinois counties as well; Macon, Sangamon, Scott, Logan, Tazewell, Stark, Morgan, Christian, Champaign, and Woodford are counties two through 11.

Concerning Corn, the Land of Lincoln took the top five counties in the United States across the previous year as well, with McLean County leading the way with almost 71 million bushels of corn produced last year. Iroquois, Livingston, LaSalle, and Champaign counties made up numbers two through five as well; only Iowa produces more corn as a state than Illinois does at this juncture.

Governor JB Pritzker, as well as Illinois Department of Agriculture Director Jerry Costello – respectively – noted how impressive the numbers were, and credited the farmers of the state with the remarkable production each season; their remarks regarding the soybean and corn production of Illinois are each below.

“For centuries, Illinois has solidified its status as an agricultural state—and 2022 was no different. Thanks to the hard work of our farmers, Illinois counties produced more corn and soybeans than anywhere else in the nation — exporting millions of bushels around the globe and generating billions in revenue. When we say Illinois farmers do it best, this is what we mean.”
“Our Illinois farmers have once again proved why agriculture is the number one industry in the state of Illinois. Our agricultural reach goes far beyond our state. In 2022, Illinois exports of corn and soybeans to the world totaled over $3.5 billion.”
