Respiratory illnesses are up in Illinois. Officials say the state’s overall respiratory illness level has ticked up from moderate to high, and the increase is driven by an expected early winter jump in hospital admissions.

As a result, the Illinois Department of Public Health issued a health alert to hospitals and healthcare facilities recommending that they take note of local conditions and consider taking steps to prevent the circulation of seasonal illnesses, including visitor restrictions and masking.
