Infant mortality rate drops across Illinois per recent data, rate still higher than national average

The infant mortality rate is down in Illinois, according to the most recent data.

The Illinois Department of Public Health released a new report that shows the statewide rate decreased to five-point-six deaths per one thousand live births in 2021, compared to six-point-five per one-thousand in 2018.

The Illinois infant mortality rate remains slightly above the national rate.
