(Updated) Springfield Police: suspected homicide in S. Illinois Street

UPDATE: The Office of Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon has confirmed the victim was a 29-year-old male, who was rushed to Springfield Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning – at 3:35 AM, he was pronounced dead. The identity of the victim is being withheld to provide time for next of kin to be notified. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday morning.

The Springfield Police Department reports that officers are responding to a possible homicide in the 400 block of South Illinois Street.

One victim was apparently recovered from the street and subsequently transported to a local hospital; hospital staff later pronounced them dead.

No further information has been made available at time of reporting. The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
