The Illinois State Trooper who was shot last year during a traffic stop in Springfield has returned to duty.

It’s been 11 months since Trooper Dakotah Chapman-Green was hurt while pulling over Cristobal Santana, who was
considered a suspect in the murder of his ex-girlfriend in Chicago.

During that traffic stop, Santana allegedly shot Chapman-Green multiple times, chased him down, and then beat him in the face with his gun.

Santana was arrested a short time later and is facing Sangamon County charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery to a peace officer, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

He’s been incarcerated in the Sangamon County Jail since then and is due back in court for a status hearing on Oct. 1.
