SPD warn greater Springfield community of new scam using Microsoft computers and pop-up warnings

The Springfield Police Department is warning Microsoft computer users of a scam involving fake error messages.

A pop-up window will appear, claiming it’s
from Microsoft.

The “error” message then tells users to call a specific number
for assistance.

Police say not to call this number, as Microsoft will never display pop-ups urging you to dial them.

Instead, Springfield Police suggest you do the following: Exit the pop-up window by clicking the “X” in the corner or by using the task manager; they are warning everyone not be fooled by any fake “X” buttons or links within the pop-up.
