Springfield man in custody after accident that left thousands across the Illinois capital without power

The power lineman uses insutated tool to open the connection of the transformer from the high voltage distribution system. To change the drop out fuse cut out that protects the transformer.

A Springfield man is in custody and facing charges in connection with an accident last Thursday that knocked out power to many Springfield residents.

The accident occurred when a car struck a pylon pole at Fourth and Laurel.

City Water, Light, and Power officials say up to 7,000 customers lost their power because of the accident.

The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Serod Hutchinson. Police arrested him for DUI.
