The City of Springfield released its initial budget for the 2025 fiscal year, and the public’s safety remains a top priority for the horseshoe’s representatives.

The preliminary budget, totaling nearly $700 million, shows the city is interested in increasing funds for public safety departments.

Combined, the Springfield Police and Fire departments would receive $18 million more than the budget that was approved last winter.

This means the departments could afford to hire 16 more police officers and 23 more firefighters.

The final budget, however, won’t be approved until the end of February.
