An earlier version of this story was worded in such a way as might suggest that the State’s Attorney had formally announced his candidacy as a potential judicial successor on the Illinois 7th Judicial Circuit Court. State’s Attorney Wright recently filed the proper paperwork necessary to be considered for the open vacancy – which is public record – but has not otherwise announced his plans in any manner.

Sangamon County State’s Attorney Dan Wright has, through the filing of the necessary paperwork, taken the first steps toward being considered for a recently opened local judge position.

The vacant post, once occupied by Matthew Mauer – who died July 23 – already has a bevy of prospective suitors, with or without Wright. At least six other candidates have expressed interest in the job.

Judges who sit on Illinois’ 7th Circuit will choose the replacement for their fallen colleague.
