WMAY’s Last Night-in-Sports Report: 08/04/2023

The Chicago Cubs got another win over a division opponent, the Cincinnati Reds, last night at Wrigley 5-3 in the final. Jameson Tailon picked up the win on the mound, and Adbert Azolay got the last 4 outs of the game to earn his 13th save of the season. The Cubs start a series with the Atlanta Braves this afternoon at Wrigley.

The Chicago White Sox scored three runs in the top of the first inning yesterday in Texas and then were held scoreless the rest of the game, falling to the Rangers 5-3 in the final. Gavin Sheets drove in 2 for the Sox in the loss. The Sox are in Cleveland tonight to start a series with the Guardians.

The St. Louis Cardinals gave up four runs in the top of the 2nd inning to the visiting Minnesota Twins, falling to the Twins at Busch 5-3 in the final. Alec Burleson had three hits, including a homer for the Cards in the loss. The Cards host the Colorado Rockies tonight at Busch.

In minor league baseball, the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes were blown out in their final home game of the season last night at Robin Roberts stadium by the Danville Dans 20-8 in the final; the Shoes are in O’Fallon tonight to take on the Hoot.
