In the aftermath of derecho of July 29 that damaged so much across Springfield, Sangamon County and Central Illinois, the governor of Illinois has a issued a disaster proclamation.

As per Governor JB Pritzker’s office, the proclamation was issued as a result of the damage sustained by Coles, Cook, Edgar, Hancock, McDonough, Morgan, and Washington Counties – along with Sangamon – thanks to severe weather, tornadoes, and derecho.

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security (IEMA-OHS) has been assessing the damage done across these areas since the incidents; they’ve concluded in their reports that local resources and capabilities in the communities hit by these storms have been exhausted, and the state’s resources are needed to respond to and recover from the effects of the severe storms.

Governor Pritzker noted that, “Many Illinois communities suffered extensive damages due to last week’s torrential rain and severe weather. To support those impacted across the state, I have signed a disaster proclamation to mobilize every available resource, accelerating the recovery process and providing relief for our residents. I want to thank IEMA-OHS for their ongoing coordination.”
