Illinois is ramping up efforts to bring homelessness under control statewide.

Governor JB Pritzker hosted a number of advocates, community leaders, and experts for a summit last week to discuss the goal of reaching “functional zero” for homelessness statewide, meaning the number of people experiencing homelessness does not exceed a community’s capacity to find permanent housing for them.

It’s an initiative that’s already underway in Springfield, and the state is investing $360 million toward the issue in the new budget that takes effect July 1.
