The holiday, marking the end of slavery in the U.S. will be marked with festivities Saturday and Sunday at Comer Cox Park, beginning with a parade beginning at 9:45 am Saturday at South Grand and Martin Luther King Drive. Other events include the opening weekend of the Noir exhibit at the Illinois State Museum.

The exhibit highlights Black artists and culture – it runs through October. The Kidzeum of Health and Science will also have a “pop-up” Juneteenth exhibit and storytime with Springfield Alderwoman Lakeisha Purchase on Monday.

Most governmental offices will be closed Monday for the Juneteenth holiday.
