Expanded Juneteenth celebration planned for Springfield later this month

Plans are in place for an expanded Juneteenth celebration in Springfield later this month.

The observance of the end of slavery in the U.S. is now an official state and federal holiday.

In Springfield this year, it will be marked with five days of events, starting June 14 with a Juneteenth talent show at Lincoln Library.

On Thursday, the 15th, Juneteenth will be the theme of the free Levitt AMP concert downtown.

On the 16th, there will be a street art fair at the State Museum.

Then the two-day holiday celebration runs on June 17 and June 18 at Comer Cox Park, with a parade on June 17.
