136 police officers from around the state are being honored for bravery and valor in the line of duty.
For the first time since 2016, Illinois State Police have issued Law Enforcement Medals of Honor to officers killed or seriously wounded in the line of duty, or who displayed exceptional heroism in the performance of their duties.
The officers who were recognized represent 41 police agencies around the state, including Illinois State Police, officers from the state Department of Conservation and Illinois Gaming Board, and local departments across Illinois; 26 of the 136 honors were awarded posthumously.
