While Wisconsin lawmakers continue to resist efforts to legalize marijuana in that state, millions of dollars are coming across the border from Wisconsin to Illinois cannabis dispensaries.

The state Department of Financial and Professional Regulation says Illinois made more than $36 million in tax revenue last year from the sale of recreational cannabis to Wisconsin residents.

In the four counties with dispensaries on the Illinois-Wisconsin border, sales to out-of-state customers made up slightly more than half of all transactions.
