Generation X takes center stage in a new exhibit opening Saturday at the Illinois State Museum.

The “Growing Up X” exhibit will feature some of the most memorable gadgets, fashions, and décor of the time – all wholly familiar to those who grew up in the 1970s and ‘80s.

From telephones with cords, to parachute pants, to Teddy Ruxpin toys and beyond. But, to be sure, the exhibit is about more than just fads and trends.

It also discusses and illustrates how the Vietnam War, the Cold War, the War on Drugs, and HIV/AIDS shaped, molded, and helped to define Generation X.

The new interactive exhibit runs through September 4 at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield. Admission is free and more details can be found at illinoisstatemuseum.org.
