Springfield’s Jewish community begins its eight-day celebration of Hanukkah with a menorah-lighting ceremony Sunday afternoon.
Hanukkah commemorates the victory of an ancient Jewish resistance army over Greek forces and the re-establishment of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem.
The celebration begins with ceremonies starting at 3pm Sunday on the Old State Capitol Plaza. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin is among those scheduled to attend.
