No one is injured, but eight people had to be rescued from the balcony of a burning Springfield apartment building Sunday night.

Firefighters got the call around 10:45pm and arrived at the complex in the 1000 block of South First Street to find heavy fire coming from the building. Crews used extension ladders to reach the balcony and help residents down to safety. All residents were accounted for and no one was hurt.

The fire department says most of the damage was located in one apartment, along with the roof and attic space and the rear exterior staircase. But ten residents have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
