John Waite returns to Springfield Friday night as the headline for Night One of AbeFest, the two-night music festival at the BOS Plaza in Springfield.
It’s not his first time here — Waite appeared at what was then the Prairie Capital Convention Center as the lead singer of the Babys when they toured with Journey in 1980. In this interview with The Lake’s Jim Leach, John Waite talks about his career in music, as a solo artist, with the Babys and with Bad English; the magic of songwriting; how getting older has influenced and freed up his songwriting; and what it’s like to get back out on the road after COVID shut down live performing.
